I know a few years ago, we bought ourselves a sailboat, that came complete with a few sleeping compartments down below.  Nothing big mind you, and definitely not of any regular standard sized mattresses.  As a matter of fact, all the mattress and cushions down below are custom built by the original manufacturer.  And usually, the sleeping compartments are not part of the primary design considerations when building a boat.  The mattress are often not the most luxurious for sleeping on either.  Their usually pretty skinny, and as we bought the boat used, they were pretty worn out.
