Valances for Every Window?
Window valances are a useful way of drawing attention to your windows and give your window treatments a special finishing touch, but they are not right for every room or every window. Here are the reasons you might want to give valances a miss.
1. Your Windows or Window Frames are Something Special Already
If you have unusual windows in your home try to avoid covering them up if you can. Some homes have unusual round or arched windows which it is pity to obscure. Others have beautiful stained glass windows which need no curtains or window treatments of any kind.
2. Your Curtain Poles are Works of Art
Some curtain rods and poles are works of art in themselves being made of wrought iron, chrome or burnished meta and finished with handsome finials at each end. There is no need to cover these over at all. Now, if you have white plastic curtain rails, that is another story. Head straight for the valance store!
3. You Have Chosen Unusual Curtain Headings
Some curtain headings are meant to be seen and not covered. This will be the case, for example, if you have tie top or tab top curtains. Be sure to combine them with a curtain rod which looks good in the light of day however as you will see it fully when the curtains are drawn back.
4. You Want a Minimalist Style of Decoration
As window valances are not completely necessary, they are just adding detail you do not need if your style is minimalist. Having said that you do need something to focus on even in a minimalist room so if you have no other focal points a very simple valance paired with a roller blind could add some much needed interest.
5. You Are On a Very Tight Budget
If funds are severely restricted, then window valances can wait for another year when you are able to splash out a bit more. Focus on necessities in those circumstances. No need to get yourself into debt over valances.
